Establishing the Cross Triangle Greenway dream

Laying out our vision on October 25, 2009 (photo by Jerry Markatos)

We at the East Coast Greenway Alliance are excited to work with dozens of local partners to establish a safe and accessible route for bicyclists and pedestrians to get from one Triangle community to another. We discussed the idea among the hikers and bikers that came together along the American Tobacco Trail in October of 2009. And on Friday, October 22nd of 2010, we held the public idea launch for the Cross Triangle Greenway — a 39-mile bike ride from Raleigh to Durham! In Bike Month 2011, we hosted a 28-mile Durham Greenways Ride on Saturday, May 7th and the following fall we led rides to Durham on Saturday, September 24th.

Onwards to a Healthy & Sustainable Triangle community,

  1. Tonight at 9, area trails unite as the Cross Triangle Greenway. UNC-TV’s North Carolina Weekend will show Rick Sullivan’s photo essay over the next few days.

  2. Carroll Webber says:

Cross Triangle inspires some of us in Pitt County and beyond. I’ve been out of touch since visiting Wendy Jewett in Hertford a few years ago but starting next April will have time again to do something to move forward on the eastern ECG alternate route.
